WILDER FIRES “LEAGUE ONE” JIBE AS OWLS SINK TO RECORD LOW<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

SHEFFIELD<\/strong> \u2013 Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has reignited the Steel City rivalry in scathing fashion, mocking Sheffield Wednesday\u2019s “embarrassing” state after the Owls were officially relegated from the Championship in record time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking following the Blades’ recent outings, a defiant Wilder\u2014who returned for a third stint at Bramall Lane last September to “restore momentum”\u2014did not hold back when asked about the plight of the club’s cross-city rivals. Wednesday\u2019s fate was sealed in February following a 2-1 derby defeat at the hands of Wilder\u2019s men, marking the earliest relegation in English Football League history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I\u2019m a Sheffielder through and through, and I know what this city is about,” Wilder remarked, his tone shifting from professional to provocative. “But you look across the road and it\u2019s a shambles. To be down in February? That\u2019s not just a bad season; that\u2019s a complete collapse of everything a professional club should stand for.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Owls currently sit rock bottom of the Championship with a staggering -55 goal difference and a mere -6 points following administrative penalties. With the club currently in administration and facing a potential 15-point deduction in League One next season, Wilder suggested the “Owls” name was becoming increasingly ironic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They aren’t exactly wise birds at the moment, are they?” Wilder quipped. “They\u2019ve spent the year looking for someone to blame while we\u2019ve been focused on the ‘physicality, mentality, and attitude’ needed to compete. If you don’t respect the league, the league chews you up. They\u2019ll have plenty of time to think about that on those long Tuesday nights in the third tier\u2014assuming they even have a club left to field a team.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The comments have sparked fury at Hillsborough, where fans recently helped force a change in ownership to end the tenure of Dejphon Chansiri. While Wilder himself has faced a “challenging” season with United currently 17th in the table, his status as a “Blade through and through” ensured his barbs hit home with the United faithful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As United looks toward a “completely different” campaign next year, Wilder concluded with a final sting: “We\u2019re staying grounded. They\u2019re just… staying down.”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
