Donedeal: Rams has $158 Million blockbuster deal on alternatives to replace QB Matthew Stafford

At some point, the Los Angeles Rams will need to make plans for life after Matthew Stafford. Would they be better off going long-term with one of these three players? Stafford is scheduled to participate in the NFL in his 36th season. People, regrettably, time is running out. Even with how good Matthew Stafford has been with the Rams, the organization will eventually need to start looking for a replacement.

And the Rams might look in a lot of places to find someone to replace him. Although it won’t be simple, the Rams appear to have the intelligence to do the task. Let’s examine three long-term alternatives for replacing Matthew Stafford

Matthew Stafford, quarterback of the Los Angeles Rams, has three long-term alternatives.
Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott’s current contract with the Dallas Cowboys expires in 2025, therefore he will be eligible to sign a free agent contract during that offseason. A quarterback as good as Prescott might not seem likely to be available in the free agent market, but I’m not convinced the Cowboys will sign him.

Both quarterback Dak Prescott and head coach Mike McCarthy are in the final year of their contracts, and if the Cowboys don’t advance in the NFC playoffs this year, I can see the front office choosing to make drastic changes at both positions.

Prescott might be able to take advantage of a free agency tour as a result of this; if so, why not the LA Rams? Prescott would have a top-three head coach, a strong offensive line, and sufficient playmakers in a win-now situation if this were to occur the following summer.

Additionally, Prescott would experience something new in his NFL career—playing for a top head coach—something he hasn’t done since 2016.

Bennett, Stetson
Stetson Bennett, who was selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, may have challenges in this situation, but as the young quarterback in the LA Rams system, he has the potential to develop into a long-term option—that is, until something unexpected happens. September 13, 2023, saw him added to the reserve/non-football illness list. He appears to be in much better shape now.

Bennett is undersized for the position, but several of quarterbacks who have had great NFL careers have succeeded despite this. Lance Zierlein’s NFL.com draft profile for him is as follows:
