Donedeal: Carlisle United has bid £70 million for Everton defender

Carlisle United may see a significant financial boost as Manchester United has made a bid of almost £50 million for Jarrad Branthwaite, an Everton defender who performed admirably for Sean Dyche’s team and helped the Toffees escape Premier League relegation.

Carlisle United, who had been promoted from League Two in 2023, was unable to stay in the third division. The player’s 2020 transfer to Everton was finalized with a rumored sell-on clause, though, which would considerably boost the club’s summer transfer budget.

Jarred Branthwaite: From Prospect to Star Rated at £70 Million
Jarred Branthwaite’s ascension has been astounding considering that he was benched for the majority of the 2021–2022 season for an Everton team that struggled defensively and gave up 66 goals, the most in a league season since 1976. In a 1-1 draw with Chelsea, the youthful defender netted his first professional goal for the team and helped Everton avoid relegation.

After a fruitful loan with PSV Eindhoven, Branthwaite established himself as a premier center back last season. Out of all center defenders with more than ten games, he was among the top ten in the Premier League for both successful tackles and interceptions.

The defender’s relationship with James Tarkowski helped Everton avoid relegation, and last month, Gareth Southgate gave him his England debut. Coming off the bench in a 3-0 victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina, the defender cemented his status as one of the nation’s most gifted defenders.

According to Fabrizio Romano on X, Manchester United has reinforced its interest in the rising star by submitting a bid with a whopping £45 million fixed price with an additional £5 million in add-ons. The Toffees are reportedly demanding a price of almost £70 million, so further haggling may be necessary to reach an agreement.
