Breaking: Lakers offer the University of Connecticut manager six years and $200 million to be their next coach

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - APRIL 08: Head coach Dan Hurley of the Connecticut Huskies reacts in the first half against the Purdue Boilermakers during the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament National Championship game at State Farm Stadium on April 08, 2024 in

Dan Hurley sprang to prominence a few weeks ago as one of the NBA’s most talked-about players.

He was being closely watched even before he accepted the Los Angeles Lakers position.

, however it was said that he had fantasies of being an NBA coach.

Considering Rob Pelinka had made an offer of six years and $70 million to be their next coach, that came as a huge surprise.

Adam Zagoria now revealed on Twitter that he has consented to sign a $50 million six-year contract extension to remain at the University of Connecticut.

Hurley, to put it plainly, took $20 million less than he would have if he had stayed home to coach the Lakers.

That says a lot about the current situation of a team that not so long ago used to attract elite free players like flies.

The Lakers’ roster isn’t strong enough to contend for an NBA title, despite the inflated expectations of the media and fans.

Even for a wealthy NCAA coach who already makes millions, $20 million is a lot of money, but the Lakers don’t guarantee a job.

Hurley has the chance to create history with the Huskies by leading all decisions and having complete control over his program while winning three straight National Championships.

Regarding the Lakers, their 13-year history of seven changing coaches doesn’t exactly scream stability, and if they continue to take the same strategy, they may have trouble attracting coaches and free agents to return.
