Alec Bohm has welcome a new baby

The Home Run Derby will have a Phillies representative.

MLB confirmed on Friday that Alec Bohm will take part in the Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Bohm and Gunnar Henderson of Baltimore are the first two confirmed competitors for the well-liked event this year.

This season, Bohm, 27, has hit 11 home runs. Earlier this week, he was selected the National League’s All-Star starting third baseman.

The Home Run Derby this year will appear very different. Players will either have 40 pitches to hit or three minutes at the plate in the first round and semifinals, whichever comes first, in an effort to counteract the hectic pace of the timed Derby format. Three outs make up the bonus rounds, which last two minutes or 27 pitches. Additionally, the first round bracket-style matchups are being eliminated by the league. The eight players who score the most runs will move on to the semifinals, where they will face off in 1 versus. 4 and 2 vs. 3 matchups, respectively, determined by how many home runs each player hit in the first round.

Bohm will attempt to win the Home Run Derby and become the first Phillies player to do so since Ryan Howard in 2006. The final Phillies player to take part in the 2022 event was Kyle Schwarber. He squared up to Albert Pujols and, well, blasted it.
