Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch shrugged off concerns about one of the few players on the roster struggling early in the season. Second baseman Colt Keith made an error on a ground ball that could have resulted in a double play with two runners on and no outs in the ninth inning. The misplay loaded the bases, setting up a two-RBI single from Aaron Judge that extended the lead to four runs.
The Tigers (7-5) mounted a rally in the final inning but managed only three runs in their comeback attempt, ultimately losing the series finale to New York, 4-3.
“I don’t worry about Colt,” Hinch said. “I think Colt is a really good player. We’ve seen this before, and obviously, he wants to be perfect. Right now, things aren’t perfect for him, but that doesn’t change his place in the batting order or on this team
Keith, who has shifted back to playing primarily second base with Gleyber Torres sidelined due to an oblique injury, made three errors during the series against the Yankees. In Monday’s 6-2 victory, Keith mishandled a ground ball and threw errantly to first base, resulting in an unearned run for New York due to the double error.
