Sad News: The New York Jets are still at an impasse.
Regarding his contract predicament, veteran pass rusher Haason Reddick and the New York Jets are still at an impasse.
That made it seem like the team might just give up on this choice by trading him and making him the responsibility of another team. I put that query to Pro Football Network and Athlon Sports reporter Nick Faria, who covers the Jets.
“None,” Faria firmly informed me on the August 7th broadcast of “Boy Green Daily.”
Whether for better or worse, Reddick sticks with the Jets
Reddick was first acquired by the green and white on March 29 in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. Reddick was willing to play out the last year of his $45 million contract in 2024, according to Gang Green’s understanding.
But since Reddick’s initial press appearance, he has not been seen in the Jets’ facility.
As a result, there is increasing external pressure on the Jets to take action to resolve this issue. Fans have also been putting pressure on Reddick to appear on social media.
Reddick’s wallet has been under another type of pressure.
Reddick has already forfeited $250,000 for missing OTAs, been penalized $50,000 for each day of training camp missed, and the Jets have the opportunity to fine him an additional $300,000 in “discretionary fines.”
Things are about to get serious as the Jets’ preseason opener against the Washington Commanders is scheduled for Saturday, August 10. Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic pointed this out.
“He [Reddick] would be fined one entire week’s worth of regular season pay, which is 1/18 of his contract, for each preseason game he skips. With a $14.25 million in compensation, that works out to $791,666. Rosenblatt clarified, “which means he would be fined $2.37 million if he doesn’t report before any of the three preseason games.”
